Annika’s dress wasn’t complicated. It was just a white column gown with spaghetti straps and little white daisy appliques embroidered on it. She found the dress at a wedding boutique that was filled with fancy, ornate wedding gowns worthy of being in bridal magazines and all with hefty price tags. She wanted something simple and was drawn to her dress that was found in the prom section of the store.
William wore one of his better suits. A slim fit camel colored three piece that he wore with red, blue and yellow striped socks and his fathers sterling silver turtle cufflinks. His white shirt was crisp and he wore a navy bow tie. His hair was cut neat, parted on the side and slicked back with pomade.
She carried a small bouquet of white daisies that matched the daisy boutonniere he wore on his skinny lapel. They were eloping on the island of Orta San Giulio, a picturesque piece of heaven located off of Italy’s lake Orta and were to wed inside of a tiny chapel. Only two other individuals knew of their secret wedding and that was Annika’s best friend, Cici and William’s best mate, Patrick. Both flew in from the United States and England to share this special day with them. Cici walked her best friend down the aisle and William teared up when he saw his future bride to be. The ceremony was brief and intimate. Each wrote their own vows and when they both said, “I do” Cici and Patrick cheered them on.
As they were taking photos William asked Annika, “Are you sure this is what you wanted?” He paused. “You know I could have given you more.”
“I know.” She smiled and kissed him on the cheek. “This is more than enough.”
And it was.
